In 2009-2010 academic year, the structure of the department of Kazakh philology Zhetysu state university n.a. I.Zhansugurov became more complicated in connection with the training of future journalists. Until 2014-2015 academic year, training in the specialty 5B050400 - Journalism was carried out by the teachers of this department. In the 2015-2016 academic year, the specialty “Russian Language and Literature”, “Russian Language and Literature in Schools with Non-Russian Language of Learning” and “Journalism” were merged into new department - journalism and philology.
In the 2013-2014 academic year, the specialty 5B011800 - Russian language and literature was accredited, and in 2015 by the decision of the NKAO Council - accreditation passed such specialties as 5В012200 - Russian language and literature in schools with non-Russian language of instruction, 5В050400 - Journalism.
According to the system of dual education in 2015-2016 academic year, employers of the Almaty regional socio-political, social and economic newspaper “Zhetysu” and the regional social and political newspaper “Ogni Alatau”, included in the LLP “Өлке тынысы”, in secondary school-gymnasium № 10 n.a. Sh. Ualikhanov opened branches of the Department of Journalism and Philology.
The planned work of the methodological group at the Department for the 2019-2020 academic year is developed and implemented on the basis of the plan of the University and the methodological Council of the faculty.

On December 19, 2019, the faculty of Humanities held a one-day training seminar for teachers and students on the specifics of the updated content of secondary education in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The seminar was organized by the Department of journalism and Philology and the branch Of the center of pedagogical excellence in the city of Taldykorgan in the person of coach Abisheva Raushan Bazartaevna. The workshop participants expressed their gratitude to coach the MTC Abisheva Raushan Basaltine not only for the interesting and important information that will undoubtedly have students with invaluable assistance in the forthcoming teaching practice, but also for the bright and exciting form of presenting the material, which left no one indifferent and immediately turned on the teachers and students in a lively creative dialogue.

Russian Russian language and literature teachers of secondary schools of Almaty region held the first scientific and practical conference on the topic: “Theory and practice of teaching Russian language and literature in educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the context of the updated program”. The main purpose of the conference is to exchange pedagogical experience in teaching Russian language and literature, as well as to conduct training seminars. The conference was conducted in three directions:
Features of teaching Russian language and literature within the updated content of education;
Text as a means of personal development;
New approaches to teaching Russian language and literature in educational institutions in Kazakhstan.
Within the framework of the conference, master classes were held and a round table “Problems of implementing the updated program in schools of Kazakhstan”was organized. At the end, the participants were awarded certificates, as well as materials of the scientific and practical conference. The conference was organized by the Department of journalism and Philology, the regional educational and methodological center for education development, and the branch of the center of pedagogical excellence in Taldykorgan.

On November 13, 2019 the Chairman of the management Board of the Republican newspaper “Egemen Qazaqstan” Darkhanuly Kydyrali came to the University to meet with the students.
The meeting was dedicated to the 125th anniversary of I. Zhansugurov. Since 1921 to 1935 the poet Kulager worked as a correspondent, a head of the department of the newspaper ” Enbekshi Kazakhstan “(now “Egemen Kazakhstan”). Secondly, there is a department of “Journalism ” and “Philology” at our university which trains the specialists, with whom the thoughts on the life of the republican newspaper were shared, responding to the questions of the future specialists. Besides, Darhan Kuandykuly is currently the President of the International Turkic Academy in Kazakhstan, Doctor of Historical Sciences, a shokailearner, and the students of the specialty “History” have received interesting information in the field of history.

This was once again confirmed by participants of the ethnic festival held on December 13, 2018 at the Faculty of Humanities. The classroom 129 gave a hospitable welcome to “delegations” representing various peoples and national cultures. students of the Group 211 majoring in the specialty of “Russian language and literature in schools with non-Russian language of instruction” were the main actors of the holiday. As the organizer of the festival, acting associate professor of the department of journalism and philology Irina G. Chsherbovskikh said, the curatorial hour turned into a real firework of talents. Students prepared interesting stories about different nations, which were accompanied by a demonstration of traditional national costumes and tasting national dishes. Guests of the festival were able to taste the fragrant Uzbek pilaf and Chechen dumplings with meat, Korean rice and tasty baursaks. The highlight of the program were songs in German and Korean and fiery Uzbek dance. Holding such events broadens the horizons of students, fosters respect for national traditions, interest in, and respect for the culture of other peoples.
Since 2013, the Department has been implementing a program on academic mobility of students. The academic mobility program provides an opportunity for students to continue their education and gain scientific experience abroad by participating in short-term educational or research programs.
