In the second year of the specialty “Russian language and Literature”, an interactive lesson was held in an unusual form – in the format of a “Literary cafe”, which turned into a real celebration of high poetry.
There are 4 students in the college-based group: Danil Akulov, Anna Shvetsova, Ekaterina Vyatleva and Yaroslav Rubashkin. According to Irina Gennadievna Shcherbovskikh, a teacher of foreign literature, candidate of Philological Sciences, students of the 221st group sincerely love poetry, always creatively approach the preparation for classes and actively participate in various literary competitions and tournaments (they are experts in ancient mythology, authors of musical and poetic compositions about autumn, directors and actors in the staging of a work of art). But a practical lesson in the form of a “Literary cafe” was held for the first time. The students slightly adjusted the topic of the lesson, combining the work of two geniuses of the Renaissance – Francesco Petrarch and William Shakespeare, an important place in whose work was occupied by the genre of sonnet.
The lesson was held over a traditional cup of tea and under the flickering light of candles, which created a certain chamber mood. According to the students, it was as if for some time they found themselves in another poetic era, when the sonnet genre, so beloved by authors of different eras and various art schools, had just appeared.
After the students’ speeches on the specifics of the genre and the difference between the sonnets of Italian and English humanists, the most long–awaited part of the lesson began – the performance of sonnets by Petrarch and Shakespeare. The teachers of the Department of Russian Language and Literature attended the lesson as guests. They also had to recite one of the sonnets of the European Renaissance by heart. Associate Professor of the Department of Russian Language and Literature, PhD Seralieva Naila Zhumagalievna performed Shakespeare’s 90th sonnet. The teacher Kurmanov Murat Baylievich read his favorite sonnet 66. Irina Gennadievna Shcherbovskikh performed Shakespeare’s Sonnet 130 in English and Russian.
But the most beautiful and heartfelt was the performance of sonnets by two classics by second-year students. This once again confirmed P.Verlaine’s idea that poetry is a special verbal and musical expression of the soul. Voltaire also called poetry “The music of the soul”.
The lesson ended with lines from a sonnet by A.S.Pushkin, who silently looked at the participants of the poetic evening from a portrait by V.A.Tropinin.
