(Dedicated to the memory of M.R. Katenova)











On April 14, 2025, at Zhetysu University named after I. ZhanSügirov, the Faculty of Humanities, organized by the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation Studies, an international scientific and practical conference titled “Language. Culture. Communication” was held in memory of the talented educator, founder of the Department of Foreign Languages and honorary professor of the university, Maiра Rakhmetovna Katenova.
The purpose of the conference was to develop scientific dialogue in the fields of philology, cultural studies, and pedagogy, as well as to preserve and popularize the scientific legacy of M.R. Katenova, who made a significant contribution to both national and world science.Conference Themes:
Modern Philological Paradigms and Language Studies. This section discussed the current issues of linguistics, literary studies, comparative and contrastive analysis of languages, and other aspects of contemporary philological research.
Culture and Intercultural Communication in the Global Space. Participants exchanged opinions on the interaction of cultures, the formation of cultural identity through language, and the problems and prospects of intercultural communication in the context of globalization.
Innovative Technologies and Educational Trends in Language Learning. This topic covered modern approaches to language teaching, the introduction of digital and interactive technologies into the educational process, and the role of artificial intelligence and big data in language education.
The conference was held in a hybrid format — both online and offline. It was attended not only by scientific staff, university lecturers, doctoral students, master’s students, and students from various regions of Kazakhstan, but also by foreign scholars from leading universities in the USA, France, and Turkey.
The plenary session was opened by the rector of Zhetysu University, Doctor of Law, Professor E.A. Buribaev, who highly praised the scientific and pedagogical work of Maiya Rakhmetovna Katenova.
During the conference, both domestic and foreign speakers delivered insightful reports and exchanged experiences. As part of the event, a new lecture hall named after M.R. Katenova was opened at the university, and a solemn presentation took place.
At the end of the conference, participants made proposals for further development of scientific cooperation, implementation of joint research projects, and deeper exploration of the interrelationship between language and culture. The organizers plan to make this conference a tradition.
