As part of the grant project AP26102759 «Study of the impact of physicochemical and biological pollution of glaciers on water quality and specific indicators of the flora and fauna of the Karatal River ecosystem», the faculty of our university, together with Professor Marian Janiga of the Institute of Mountain Biology, University of Žilina (Slovak Republic), and students organized an expedition aimed at studying the current state of the glaciers of the Zhetysu Alatau and the rivers originating from them.
The aim of the research is to assess the negative impact of physicochemical and biological pollution on the glacier system of the Zhetysu Alatau.
Conducting this research will make it possible to determine the quality of water resources, identify the causes and consequences of pollution by heavy metals and bacterial agents.
The scientific results obtained are planned to be used in the educational process in teaching basic and specialized disciplines of the natural sciences, which will contribute to the development of research competencies and the formation of students’ functional literacy.
