A student of Ilyas Zhansugurov Zhetysu University, Alikhan Askerbay, delivered an outstanding performance at the Asian Youth Weightlifting Championship held in Manama, breaking the world record twice. He lifted 144 kg in the snatch and 172 kg in the clean and jerk — both results were registered as new junior world records. Competing in the 71 kg weight category, Alikhan won the gold medal.
Today, Chairman of the Board – Rector Yermek Buribaev congratulated the athlete and presented him with a grant certificate for free tuition at Zhetysu University.
