As part of Project AP26104341, «Investigation of a New Spur Gear Design Based on Composite Material Using an Enhanced Tooth Contact Analysis Approach», a research visit was conducted to one of the leading engineering centers in the United States — Cornell University. The program included several days at the Cornell Tech campus in New York City, followed by continued work in Ithaca, where the university’s main research laboratories are located.
During the visit, the project’s Lead Researcher, Maksat Temirkhan, toured machine shops, manufacturing facilities, and engineering laboratories. Special attention was given to advanced high-precision machining technologies, methods for working with composite materials, and processes used in the fabrication of precision gear components. In addition, current practices in mechanical testing, digital design workflows, and prototype development were examined.
All activities formed an important part of the ongoing research aimed at developing next-generation composite gears. The project focuses on improving energy efficiency, reducing weight, and increasing the operational lifespan of mechanical transmissions through enhanced design solutions and advanced manufacturing technologies.
