The Department of Kazakh Language and Literature of the Faculty of Humanities organized a literature week titled «Адамзаттың Абайы», dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the great poet Abai Kunanbayev. The ceremonial opening of the week was marked by choral performances of Abai’s songs, dance numbers, and expressive readings of his poems. Students dressed in national costumes prepared traditional dishes of Kazakh cuisine, creating an atmosphere of national color.
As part of the program, the annual dictation «Сауаттылық сыны» was held among first-year students of the educational program “Kazakh Language and Literature.” This dictation was once initiated by Associate Professor, Candidate of Philological Sciences K. Sarbasova – a veteran of the department who devoted many years to the development of students’ literacy and linguistic culture. Today, the work she began has turned into a good departmental tradition, continued with grateful memory of her contribution.
More than 100 students took part in writing the dictation. The text was taken from M. Auezov’s novel-epic The Path of Abai, which gave the event a special symbolic meaning.
For fourth-year students, a creative meeting «Жазушымен сұхбат» (“Conversation with a Writer”) was held. The honorary guest was the writer Y. Aidabosyn, laureate of the literary awards “Altyn Qalam,” “Altyn Tobyldy,” and “Altyn Tugyr.” In an open dialogue format, students received valuable insights from the representative of the Zhetysu literary school and analyzed his short story *«Ұлыма»*, demonstrating a vivid example of interaction between a writer and the readership.
In addition, a «Poetic duel» was organized in the lobby of the main academic building for poetry enthusiasts. Students of the educational programs “Kazakh Language and Literature,” “Philology,” and “Journalism” took part in the competition. The poet, winner of republican contests, and journalist Asyl Sultangazy was invited as a member of the jury and selected the best performers.
The literature week continues, delighting students and teachers with new educational and creative events united by the spirit of respect for Abai’s great legacy and the bright memory of K. Sarbasova.
