Hackathon “Еnvironment and geography of the Russian Federation”

At the student scientific club “Geographer-Researcher”, PhD Kerimbay B.S. organized a hackathon on the topic “Environment and Geography of the Russian Federation”.
The purpose of the hackathon: to study the environment of countries bordering Kazakhstan and to develop an original product in the form of digital educational material. This process enables students to practically master the use of digital resources with AI technologies and acquire skills in creating competitive content.

The first stage of the hackathon involved case studies on the following topics: administrative-territorial structure and regional development of Russia; environment, ecology, and natural resources; major cities; infrastructure; geopolitical situation.

The second stage was the defense of digital interactive educational materials created using AI technologies.
• “Digital Infographics” — digital visualization and database, Zh. Esengeldi (Gpm-211) – Grand Prize;
• “Geovision” — animated info-lesson, K. Bidaibek (Gq-411) – 1st place;
• “Russia: MegaCitiest” — multimedia content, N. Bolat (Gq-111) – 2nd place;
• “Digital Information Display (DID)” — digital information display, A. Amirbayeva (Gq-411), and “Infrastructure Direction Board” — infrastructure guiding panel, D. Zhaksybek (Gq-411) – 3rd place.

The jury included lecturers of the Faculty of Natural and Technical Sciences, a geography researcher-teacher from Lyceum School No.125, and staff of the BzE Research Institute. They summarized the hackathon and noted that the event develops students’ skills in spatial analysis and applied research. A Letter of Appreciation from the Dean of the Faculty of Natural and Technical Sciences and from the B&E Research Institute and the Ecology Laboratory in various nominations, were presented.
