February 26 marks the day of execution of the poet, prose writer, playwright, satirist, translator, and the first chairman of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan, the multi-talented Iliyas Zhansugurov. A memorial evening dedicated to the “Kulager” of Kazakh poetry was held at the G. Ormanov Library of Zhetisu university. The Head of the Research and Practice Center “Ilyas Studies,” Doctor of Philology, Professor M. M. Imangazinov, presented new facts about the poet’s life and screened a documentary film. The Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, PhD R. S. Zheldibayeva, and historian E. O. Bulanov shared their reflections on Ilyas’s literary legacy. Shara Abildayeva, soloist of the “Ardager Azhyeler” ensemble, performed songs written to the poet’s verses. Students of the Educational Program “Kazakh Language and Literature” group QTA 212 recited poems and dedications, paying tribute to the outstanding master of the written word.
