ABOUT THE SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM
- Program name: Research and application of block programming constructors to improve cognitive skills in students
- The purpose of the program: The aim of project is to identify and test the effectiveness of using block-programming constructs to develop the cognitive skills of learners without programming experience, providing new teaching methods to foster logical thinking, creative problem solving, abstract reasoning in modern education context.
- Objectives:
- A systematization of current research on the effects of block programming constructs on cognitive skills.
Indicators for solving this task will be – literature review and methodological analysis, identification of measurement methods to assess the effectiveness of training and cognitive skills development.
- Development of an educational course and platform using block programming constructors:
Indicators of solving this problem will be – the creation of an educational course that integrates block programming constructors into the educational process, the development of an educational platform that supports block programming, providing learners with an interactive environment to improve cognitive skills.
- Conducting experimental research using an educational platform with block programming constructors
The indicators of the solution of this task will be – measuring the level of cognitive skills using standardized techniques, data analysis and interpretation of results, evaluation of students’ perception.
- Development of recommendations and methodological approaches to integrate the educational platform with block programming constructors into the educational process.
Indicators of solving this problem will be – the development of methodological approaches for the introduction of the platform in educational programs, analysis of the prospects of integration of the educational platform with the designers of block programs in the educational system of Kazakhstan, identification of obstacles and proposal of strategies to overcome them.
- Conducting events to validate research results and demonstrate the educational platform.
Indicators of this task will be the collection of feedback from educational institutions and experts for further refinement and potential scaling of the platform.
- The idea of the project: This scientific project aims to explore the effectiveness of block-based programming tools in enhancing students’ cognitive skills, including logical, algorithmic, creative, and abstract thinking. The project involves developing an educational course and an interactive platform, conducting experimental studies to measure the impact on cognitive development, and formulating methodological recommendations for integrating such tools into the education system. Additionally, dissemination activities and pilot implementations will be carried out to gather feedback and support potential scaling.
- Expected results: Based on the results of the research, the project plans to:
1) 2 scientific articles will be published in a peer-reviewed scientific publication indexed in Social Science Citation Index, Arts and Humanities Citation Index and (or) Russian Science Citation Index of Web of Science database and (or) having a CiteScore percentile in Scopus database not less than 35.
2) 1 textbook will be published in Kazakhstani publishing house. It is planned to obtain 1 copyright certificate for the textbook.
3) 1 e-learning platform with block-programming constructor will be developed and implemented, creating a creative and interactive environment for cognitive enhancement. The main idea of the research project is to apply and investigate the effectiveness of the integration of this platform as an innovative tool in the educational environment, especially in the context of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It is planned to obtain an author’s certificate for the educational platform.
4) Development of scientific and technical design documentation is not planned.
5) The results of the research project will be published in leading domestic and foreign scientific publications and will be available to educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the world scientific community.
6) Other measurable results in accordance with the requirements of the bidding documents and the specifics of the project:
-Potential consumers of the results of scientific research will be: teachers, students, young scientists and other participants of the educational process;
-The expected scientific effect consists in the development of recommendations and methodical approaches to integrate the educational platform with block-programming constructors into the educational process.
-The results obtained can be applied in educational institutions on the basis of a contract by both individuals and responsible persons of educational institutions;
-The implementation of the results of the present project has important socio-economic significance, which allows:
-improving the educational environment, resulting in the enhancement and development of critical cognitive skills needed by today’s learners. To achieve these effects, collaboration with educational institutions, policy makers and industry stakeholders is crucial.
-on the basis of analyzing and processing the data obtained from the experimental study, a model for improving the cognitive skills of learners through the application of block-programming constructs will be prepared.
-conducted an event to validate research results and demonstrate the educational platform, and researched feedback from educational institutions and experts for further refinement and potential scaling of the platform.
-a system of academic materials will be prepared, which will realize individual, differential, personal character of learning of students, promote the increase of creative and non-standard thinking abilities of students, as well as training of independent cognitive activity.
