Historical museum of Zhetysu University named after. I. Zhansugurov

The main goal of the museum is to revive intellectual, moral, cultural and creative opportunities, educate people in a universal human culture, preserve the corporate traditions of the university, and provide patriotic and civic education.

The University Museum is a place where the glorious pages of the formation and development of our university come to life. The museum reflects the entire history and activities of Zhetysu State University named after I. Zhansugurov, starting from its foundation.

The museum is located on the second floor of the university library and consists of four exhibition halls, with a total area of 276 sq.m. Photographs, historical documents, diplomas, and certificates from previous years have become true witnesses to the good deeds, difficult victories in academic and scientific work, and real successes in the development of the university. The history of the university is vividly seen through the lens of the activities of its first leaders, so the gallery of rectors’ portraits is displayed in the first hall of the museum.

Of particular interest is the exhibition “I. Zhansugurov and the University.” It contains materials about the history of the creation of the Ilyas Zhansugurov Literary Museum at the Institute, the activities of the Ilyas Scientific and Practical Center, the life of the Ilyas Izbasarlary student club, and materials from scientific and practical conferences, among others. In the next hall, the history room, there is a panoramic collage depicting the chronology of the university’s key events.

The main rarity of this hall is the symbolic key, as well as the Red Banners from the Ministries of Education of the USSR, the Kazakh SSR, and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan. The museum’s collection includes 4,000 items: printed materials, film and photographic documents, works of fine and decorative arts, personal belongings and documents of university teachers and staff, and a unique collection of ceramic products from the medieval town of Kayalik.

The museum’s expositions highlight the most important stages of the university’s development, such as joining the Bologna Charter of Universities, and its international scientific cooperation with universities both near and far abroad. A special place in the museum is devoted to the history and development of the university’s faculties and college. The museum is visited by students, schoolchildren from our city, their parents, and guests from near and far abroad.
