Postdoctoral studies

In Zhetysu University named after I.Zhansugurov, a postdoctoral course in natural sciences was opened for the first time in 2022. In world practice, postdoctoral studies are one of the most effective forms of training highly qualified scientific personnel and are considered the main engine of science. In addition to solving personnel problems, postdoctoral studies for our university is an opportunity to expand research with the involvement of platforms and resources of the world’s best universities, establish contacts with leading scientific groups, increase the prestige and fame of the university abroad. Topaev S.O. and Ermekbayev K.A. were accepted to the postdoctoral program, who, within the framework of the GF of Young Scientists under the Zhas Galym project for 2022-2024, carry out 2 projects: the project “Development of new genetic resources for improving Kazakh wheat”, headed by Ermekbayev Kanat Abayevich and the project “Taylor-Cowett flow in fluids with a yield point”, the head is Topaev Sultan Orlanovich.

1. The Taylor-Cowett current is of great interest from both theoretical and industrial points of view. There are a large number of different industrial processes and related various equipment based on the flow between two coaxial cylinders. From a theoretical or educational point of view, this flow has an extremely high efficiency in explaining the transition of the flow from laminar to turbulent mode. This is due to the fact that despite the fact that the equipment is extremely simple from a geometric point of view, it is possible to observe many different both simple and complex flows. The AP14972680 project «Taylor-Cowett flow in fluids with a yield strength» explores the application of previously obtained results using liquids that liquefy when shifting to another type of liquid, which is often used in production, as well as the analysis of the effect of a partially mobile flow (a situation where a part of the liquid has solid properties) on the stability of the Taylor-Cowett flow, physics of the current phenomenon and related mechanisms using theoretical (including modeling) and experimental approaches.

2. Despite the fact that Kazakhstan is one of the main grain producers, it ranks last in terms of wheat yield (on average 1T/ha). Therefore, in order to ensure export potential, along with domestic consumption, wheat will be sown in the country on an area of 11 million hectares. This, in turn, will negatively affect the diversification of the economy. The scientific solution of the problem is considered by the scientific project AP15473186 «Development of new genetic resources for the improvement of Kazakh wheat», developed on the basis of Zhetysu University, funded by the KN of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The main feature of the project is the study of genetic secrets of productivity and adaptation of Kazakh wheat using modern DNA technologies. Four identical cartographic wheat populations are used as a research tool. Currently, these mosaic inbred lines are undergoing the last stages of development in fully controlled growing environments. As a result of the project, genomic schemes of each population will be prepared. This valuable genetic information will become a prerequisite for identifying important genes or their combinations.
