BR24992927 Integrative Study of Gambling Addiction in Kazakhstan and Multidisciplinary Strategies for Its Minimization

    • The purpose of the program:

            

    Interdisciplinary (legal, sociological, economic) study of ludomania as a social phenomenon and form of social deviation, as well as the scale, factors and trends of gambling addiction development in Kazakhstan in order to develop effective ways to prevent ludomania and minimize its further spread.

    • Objectives:

            

    Task 1: Conduct a sociological, economic, and legal analysis of the main theoretical and empirical approaches to studying gambling addiction (ludomania) as a social phenomenon, including its causes and features of spread.

     

    Task 2: Investigate the scale and features of gambling participation among the Kazakh population.

     

    Task 3: Identify predictors of gambling participation based on regression analysis.

     

    Task 4: Identify the perceptions, stereotypes, and attitudes of Kazakhstanis towards gambling, including their interest and involvement in gambling activities.

     

    Task 5: Determine the factors and potential willingness to gamble among various social groups.

     

    Task 6: Investigate the prevalence of gambling addiction in different social groups and identify the social categories most susceptible to gambling addiction.

     

    Task 7: Study the influence of advertising and marketing in the gambling sector on the formation of gambling addiction.

     

    Task 8: Analyze the availability and prevalence of gambling in various public environments and their impact on the popularity of gambling addiction.

     

    Task 9: Analyze the gaming industry market and its relationship with the development of gambling addiction.

     

    Task 10: Research behavioral finance in the context of gambling addiction.

     

    Task 11: Investigate the impact of financial pyramids on the spread of gambling addiction and develop counteraction strategies.

     

    Task 12: Analyze the legal aspects of gambling addiction and research global experiences in state regulation of the gambling business.

     

    Task 13: Research the social and economic consequences of gambling addiction.

     

    Task 14: Analyze Kazakhstan’s legislation regulating gambling to identify latent risks and develop recommendations for its improvement.

     

    Task 15: Evaluate the effectiveness of existing measures for the prevention, treatment, and counteraction of gambling addiction.

     

    Task 16: Develop recommendations for the formation of information campaigns and social programs to reduce the prevalence of gambling addiction and increase public awareness in this area.

     

    Task 17: Test the research results in publications.

     

    • The idea of the project:

            

    The primary goal of the program is to develop and implement scientific-practical recommendations and proposals aimed at addressing gambling addiction prevention and minimizing its spread. The application is prepared in accordance with Technical Specification No. 111 for the scientific research work of the program-targeted funding competition for 2024–2026.

     

    The President of Kazakhstan has repeatedly instructed authorities to curb the growth of crime related to the population’s gambling addiction and to take comprehensive legislative, organizational, and informational-ideological measures to combat gambling addiction among Kazakhstani citizens.

     

    As a result of this scientific program, solutions and mechanisms for the social regulation of gambling addiction in Kazakhstan will be developed and substantiated. These solutions will consider the socio-cultural, legal, economic, educational, and medical-psychological aspects of this phenomenon.

    • Expected results:

               

    The final results of the program include:

     

    – New knowledge has been obtained about the patterns and features of the development of ludomania as a social phenomenon and deviant behavior;

     

    – The scale of prevalence of ludomania in Kazakhstan society is determined, the main risk groups are identified; key predictors of gambling addiction are identified;

     

    – Identified factors contributing to the development of ludomania in society; evaluated the social and economic consequences of ludomania;

     

    – Evaluation of the effectiveness of existing measures for the prevention and control of gambling addiction in Kazakhstan;

     

    – Proposed solutions to create tools for identifying and supporting individuals at risk of ludomania, informing the public about the risks of ludomania;

     

    – Proposed regulatory measures in the field of organization and conduct of gambling;

     

    – Formulated recommendations for the creation and improvement of social, educational and other programs for the prevention of ludomania;

     

    – A scientific and practical framework has been formed for the development of long-term strategies for the management and social control of ludomania.

     

    As a result of the program, the following will be published:

     

    1) at least 6 (six) articles and/or reviews in peer-reviewed scientific publications indexed in the Social Science Citation Index or Arts and Humanities Citation Index of the Web of Science database and/or having a CiteScore percentile in the Scopus database of at least 25 (twenty-five);

     

    2) not less than 8 (eight) articles in journals recommended by CQASHE;

     

    3) at least 1 (one) monographs or textbooks in foreign and (or) Kazakhstan publishing houses recommended by the academic council and (or) scientific and technical council of the applicant’s organization;

     

    4) at least 1 (one) patent or 2 (two) copyright certificates registered with the National Institute of Intellectual Property of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
