Today, the Department of History and Social-Humanitarian Disciplines of the Faculty of Humanities organized an open lecture titled “The First Scholar of the Kazakh People,” dedicated to the 190th anniversary of the birth of the great son of the nation — scientist and enlightener Shokan Ualikhanov.
The event opened with a welcoming speech by Bolat Seriev, Vice-Rector for Social Work and Youth Policy, who briefly highlighted the ethnographer’s educational views and his contribution to the development of national consciousness.
During the lecture, Bagdat Akylbekov, academician of the World Academy of Genghis Khan and a renowned Shokanologist, delivered a scientific report providing a detailed overview of Ualikhanov’s life and scholarly work, his research, and his rich intellectual heritage. Participants also had the opportunity to view drawings created by the scholar himself.
The lecture sparked great interest among students and offered a deeper understanding of Shokan Ualikhanov’s multifaceted talent.
The event concluded with performances of the songs “Tezek Töre turaly shyrqasam,” “Shokan,” and “Uly Shokan basynda,” leaving a vivid and lasting impression on the audience.
