


From 14 to 25 December 2025, Associate Professor of the Department of History and Social Sciences and Humanities at Zhetysu Universitynamed after I. Zhansugurov, Candidate of Historical Sciences Nazgul Baigabatova, along with Lecturer and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Miras Abdrakhim, are undertaking a research internship at the University of Oxford (United Kingdom).
The academic visit is being carried out within the framework of the research project IRN AP26197965, “Everyday Life of Ethnic Repatriates in Post-Soviet Kazakhstan: Adaptive Strategies and Integration Practices (A Case Study of the Zhetysu Region)”, funded by the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
During the internship, research consultations were held with leading scholars of the University of Oxford. In particular, an exchange of views took place with Professor Alexander Morrison on the historical context of the research topic and directions for comparative historical analysis. Professor Madeleine Reeves, representing the Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS) at the University of Oxford, provided analytical recommendations on contemporary migration processes and theoretical models of repatriation.
In addition to expert guidance, the scholars from Zhetysu University are conducting a systematic review of recent international academic publications at the Bodleian Libraries of the University of Oxford, as well as examining current theoretical and methodological approaches and conceptual frameworks relevant to the project’s research agenda.
