As part of a series of 30 events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation Studies at Zhetysu University named after I. Zhansugurov, an intellectual competition titled “Aqyl Battle: Mastermind” was held among second-year students. The event was organized by department lecturers G. Omarbekova and M. Zhumakhan.
The main objective of the event was to develop students’ critical and creative thinking skills, as well as to enhance their teamwork abilities.
The intellectual competition consisted of four stages:
Stage 1 — each team introduced its name and slogan.
Stage 2 — through the “Code Breakers” game, participants completed tasks focused on finding word synonyms.
Stage 3 — a quest game in which students completed secret tasks, demonstrating their logical and linguistic skills.
Stage 4 — participants once again worked on finding synonyms, showcasing the richness of their vocabulary.
During the competition, all teams demonstrated a high level of knowledge. The results were as follows:
1st place — group SHTQ 213
2nd place — group SHTQ 212
3rd place — groups SHTQ 211 and IYAR 211
At the conclusion of the event, the Head of the Department D. Zhabykbayeva and Bronwyn Schieber awarded the students with special certificates.
