On February 27, a research seminar was held at the Department of Kazakh Language and Literature to discuss the doctoral dissertation of the department’s PhD candidate, E.T. Sarzhigitov, entitled “The Poetics of Zhyrau Poetry and Methods of Teaching It in Higher Education Institutions,” submitted in fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). During the seminar, the candidate comprehensively presented the relevance of the study, its aims and objectives, scientific novelty, as well as its theoretical and practical significance. The dissertation provides an in-depth analysis of the poetic nature of zhyrau poetry, its artistic and stylistic features, and its genre system, and proposes effective methods and approaches for teaching it in higher education institutions. In addition, the research defines the place of the traditional zhyrau heritage in contemporary literary studies and systematizes the scientific and methodological foundations for its use in the educational process. The seminar was attended by faculty members of the department, young scholars, and doctoral students, who shared their views on the content of the dissertation. The participants evaluated the academic level of the research and offered a number of suggestions and recommendations. The meeting developed into a substantive exchange of opinions and provided an opportunity to discuss current issues in national literary studies and the higher education system.
