Employees of Zhetysu University named after Ilyas Zhansugurov organized an eco-challenge in support of the national environmental campaign “Clean Kazakhstan.” As part of the initiative, staff members chose to commute to work by bicycle instead of using private cars.
The primary goal of the campaign was to reduce urban traffic congestion, improve air quality, and promote physical activity among employees, while fostering a culture of cycling as a sustainable mode of transportation.
The event saw active participation from faculty deans, academic staff, heads of structural divisions, and university employees.
“This initiative has provided strong motivation for our staff. Today, they consciously gave up using their personal vehicles and came to work by bicycle. Cycling is highly beneficial for both personal health and the environment, and it is also cost-effective. We encourage our colleagues from other higher education institutions to join similar challenges aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and environmental responsibility,” noted Bolat Seriyev, Vice-Rector for Social Work and Youth Policy at Zhetysu University.
This initiative represents a meaningful contribution to building an environmentally sustainable city and a healthier society, and it is expected to continue in the future.
