What legal consequences can the pursuit of easy money lead to? Students of Zhetysu University named after Ilyas Zhansugurov addressed this question through a theatrical educational mock trial entitled “Shekara.”
The legal performance, dedicated to the consequences of drug-related crimes, aimed to provide young people with a clear understanding of legal responsibility by demonstrating the proceedings of a real court case in an accessible and engaging format.
The performance, prepared by students of the Faculty of Law and Economics, was based on a story involving the illegal delivery of drugs to predetermined locations. Through the mock trial, the students demonstrated the consequences of becoming involved in criminal activities, responsibility for violating the law, and the importance of fair justice.
Future lawyers took on the roles of a judge, prosecutor, defense attorney, and other participants in the proceedings, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience. Particular attention was paid to fundamental legal principles such as equality before the law and the presumption of innocence.
The event was attended by 400 students from secondary schools in Taldykorgan and 300 first-year university students — 700 young people in total. Representatives of law enforcement agencies of the Zhetysu Region and partner employers of the Faculty also attended the theatrical performance.
The theatrical performance was held with the support of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Zhetysu Region and the Republican Public Association “Zhangyru” — the National Anti-Corruption Movement.
The event concluded with the announcement of the results of a regional youth essay competition dedicated to improving legal literacy.
The winners were congratulated by Deputy Prosecutor of the Zhetysu Region Birlik Izbasarov and Rector of the University Ermek Boribaev, who presented them with certificates and valuable prizes.
