On November 4, 2026, an online meeting was held between representatives of the Department of Russian Language and Literature of the Faculty of Humanities at Zhetysu University named after Ilyas Zhansugurov and the Center for the Rapprochement of Cultures under the auspices of UNESCO. The event focused on strengthening intercultural dialogue, developing partnerships, and implementing joint research and educational initiatives.
During the meeting, the participants discussed prospects for long-term cooperation aimed at promoting reading, fostering interest in national and world literature, and engaging university students in research activities.
Particular attention was paid to current educational projects, especially initiatives within the framework of the “Reading Nation” concept, which are intended to promote a sustainable reading culture and a deeper understanding of literary heritage. The central topic of the academic discussion was the landmark work Az i Ya (AZ and I) by the renowned poet, writer, and public figure Olzhas Suleimenov. The book explores history and the mutual influence of Turkic and Slavic languages and cultures. It provided a basis for a productive exchange of views on the role of philological scholarship in understanding the historical past and strengthening interethnic harmony.
The meeting opens new opportunities for cooperation between the Department and the Center for the Rapprochement of Cultures in research, education, and educational outreach. It will also contribute to the professional development of future philologists and the expansion of academic contacts.
