AP08053050 – Formation of a linguoecological model of education in the Republic of Kazakhstan: theory and practice

Brief information about the project

Project title: AP08053050 – Formation of a linguoecological model of education in the Republic of Kazakhstan: theory and practice (project duration 2020-2022 y.)

Summary: In the last decade of the twentieth century, a new stage in the evolution of education has begun – noospheric education. Its main goal is the integration of the best world and domestic psychological and pedagogical experience of the modern era and the creation of an education system that can withstand the challenges of the XXI century. It provides for the correspondence of upbringing and training of the young generation to the universally recognized laws of the world, targets to ensure that the result of education is aimed at preserving the global natural environment, as well as preserving the students’ physical, mental health. Linguoecology considers the two-way activity of the language: the correct use of words preserves both the language and human health, and abuse of words violates the language and human health. Considering that the main weapon of a teacher is language, it is important for future specialists to learn the ecology of pedagogical communication and be able to use it in the right direction. Ecology of the language teaches to create relationships in compliance with environmental conditions. Linguoecology promotes the formation of a sense of responsibility for the future of the language and concern for the linguistic environment among the young generation. Because maintaining a healthy language environment depends on the linguoecological competence of the linguistic individuals that make up society. Today, the integration processes taking place in all spheres of human life have especially covered the political, economic, cultural and educational spheres. The focus on the training of a competitive specialist in Kazakhstani society and the formation of their multilingual personality, the contradiction between the fact that trilingual education is a priority at all levels of education and the lack of a multilingual education system based on the principles of linguistic ecology indicates the importance of linguoecological education. In the conditions of multilingual education, it is not enough just to know the Kazakh language, it is important to form a value attitude to it, to pass it from generation to generation in a “pure” form. Therefore, the creation of a linguoecological model of education is caused by today’s demand. Although Kazakh linguistics conducted research on the theory of the ecology of the language, its pedagogical aspect did not have a separate object of study, and so far the problem of pedagogical risk in linguoecological education and the up – brining of students has not been solved scientifically and methodically. The preliminary studies concerning the speech activity of young people in a virtual respect showed the need for comprehensive work in educational business to ensure the well-being of the language environment. This indicates that the creation of an effective mechanism for introducing the results of linguoecological research into the education system is a promising direction for scientific research.

Project goal:  Development of a model of linguoecological education by identifying linguoecological problems and the development of methods for the formation of linguoecological competence of students.

Relevance:

The spiritual development and maturity of the Kazakh society directly depends on the strength and potential of the language. Considering that the Kazakh national-cultural code is primarily in the Kazakh language, spiritual revival must be started with the idea of “language preservation”, which ancestors entrusted to us. It is closely linked with the priority in teaching language ecology.

Language ecology teaching is the guarantee of keeping the life of the language. Because Linguoecology, firstly, studies the problems of preservation and protection of language; secondly, identifies the factors that negatively influence on the language development and use; thirdly, introduces ways to improve the language culture and linguistic experience; fourthly, considers the energy of a word, its creative power, affection of communication members.

In the 21st century, global educational reforms were aimed at preparing a new model of education that meets the requirements of civilization. The new model is based on the quality of education, functional literacy, which means that students can apply their knowledge in the life. In this context, Linguoecology creates younger generation’s sense of responsibility for the future of the language and cares about the language environment. Because language preservation, the healthy environment of the linguistic environment depends on the linguo-ecological competence of the linguistic constituents of the society.

In the last decade of the twentieth century, a new stage in the evolution of education began, called noospheric education. Its main goal is to integrate the best world and domestic pedagogical and psychological experience and develop an education system capable of withstanding the challenges of the 21st century. This system is based on the preservation of universal human values in the education and upbringing of the younger generation, the focus of learning outcomes on the preservation of the global natural environment, physical and mental health of students. Linguoecology considers two functions of language: the correct use of the word contributes to the preservation of both the language and human health, and improper use destroys both the language and human health. Since the main instrument of the teacher is his language, future teachers need to study the ecology of pedagogical communication, the correct use of the power of the word.

Today, integration processes in all aspects of human life have encompassed the political, economic, cultural and educational spheres. Preparing competitive specialist Kazakhstany society aimed at preparing multilingual person and priority of trilingual education in all stages controdicts with the absence of multilingual education system based on the principles of language ecology. It shows the importance of teaching Linguoecology. In the case of multilingual education, it is not enough to master the Kazakh language, it is important to build a valuable attitude to the language, and to transfer from generation to generation in a “pure” state. Thus, the research question is to develop the methodological basis of teaching Language ecology.

              Although there are researches on the theory of Language ecology in the Kazakh linguistics, its pedagogical aspect has not been studied yet. In this regard, the topicality of the project is determined by the following key issues:

–  revival the idea of “language preservation”, which has been a legacy from the ancestors to implement spiritual revival;

– low level of social linguistic environment, language crisis in students’ linguistic environment;

– lack of methodological bases for linguo-ecological education in higher education;

– unsolved pedagogical problems of teaching Linguoecology and upbringing of students on scientific and methodological levels;

– formation of linguo-ecological competence of pedagogical process participants in multilingual education.

Expected results:

  1. Stages of development of the ecology of the Kazakh language will be classified and directions of linguoecological judgments of Kazakh intelligentsia of the early twentieth century will be determined;
  2. Extralinguistic and intralinguistic factors contributing to the development of the linguistic personality of of the youth of the Republic of Kazakhstan with other states will be comparatively characterized;
  3. Studies will be conducted and conclusions will be made on the level of the linguistic personality, the purity of the language environment of schoolchildren and students of modern universities;
  4. The pedagogical conditions necessary for linguoecological education and upbringing will be determined, as well as effective methods and techniques will be systematized;
  5. Characteristics of the structural components of the didactic unit “linguoecological competence” will be given, and a linguoecological educational program will be developed;
  6. An educational-methodical complex of the course “Linguoecology” will be created for the formation of linguoecological competence of students and pupils;
  7. Models of pedagogical linguoecology, humanization of the pedagogical environment that prevents linguoecological threats, whose effectiveness is tested and proved experimentally, will be introduced into educational institutions;
  8. Publication in the national media of materials that determine the social significance of the object of study (relating to language threats and language expansion).
