On the occasion of the upcoming Science Workers Day, a press tour was organized at Zhetysu University named after I. Zhansugurov with the support of the press service of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The event was attended by representatives of national media outlets such as “Qaz365.kz,” “Newsroom.kz,” “the Modern Education” magazine, “Qazaqstan” and “Zhetysu” TV channels, as well as regional newspapers “Vestnik Zhetysu”, “Zhetysu”, and others.
During the tour, journalists were introduced to the university’s current developments by the Chairman of the Board – Rector Yermek Buribayev. The press representatives first visited the main academic building, where they explored the Student Service Center, the educational television and radio studio, a multimedia video studio, a forensic and mock courtroom, and specialized classrooms designed for inclusive education.
Of particular interest to the media was the Center for Research on Special Education Issues. The center is equipped with devices designed for children with visual, auditory, motor, and other developmental impairments. This center plays a crucial role in organizing educational and pedagogical support for students with special needs.
Journalists also visited the “Huawei” center to learn about its work in the field of IT and spoke with members of the student-led “Enactus Zhetysu” team. The team captain, Askar Rakhym, presented their innovative projects and outlined their future plans.
Additionally, the press tour included a visit to the branch of Marconi Polytechnic University, which operates under the auspices of Zhetysu University. The branch offers a dual-degree program preparing specialists in the agricultural sector. Here, students attend lectures delivered by European professors and graduate with both Kazakhstani and Italian bachelor’s degrees.
Though Zhetysu University is a regional institution, it boasts a well-developed scientific and technical base and substantial academic potential. Currently, the university is implementing eight target-funded programs, seven grant-funded research projects, eleven “Young Scientist” grants, and one commercialization project.
Journalists also toured the Institute of Biotechnology and Ecology, where they learned about fundamental research projects. They visited the Academic Excellence and Speed Breeding Center — the only facility of its kind in Central Asia. Here, they viewed various species of grain crops and apple trees under cultivation. Rector Yermek Abiltaiuly emphasized that the laboratories, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, offer excellent opportunities for young scientists, educators, and students engaged in research.
Young inventors Z. Akhmetov, A. Ibraimov, and K. Zhakpayev presented their innovations — the “Smart Motorcycle,” “Electric Pit Bike,” and “Electric Tricycle” — which drew significant interest from the journalists. The tour also included a visit to the university’s furniture production workshop and the Student Residence Hall.
The media representatives participating in the press tour witnessed firsthand the impressive advancements in infrastructure and scientific capacity achieved by Zhetysu University.
