Zhetysu University Hosted an International Conference on Gambling Addiction

On 22 May 2026, Zhetysu University named after I. Zhansugurov hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference entitled “Ludomania: Social Challenges, Counteraction Strategies, and State Regulation of Gambling”

The conference was organized within the framework of the scientific programme BR24992927 “Integrative Study of Gambling Addiction in Kazakhstan and Multidisciplinary Strategies for Its Minimization” funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The conference brought together national and international scholars, representatives of government agencies and civil society organizations, as well as experts in psychology, sociology, law, medicine, education, and social work. Participants discussed current trends in the spread of gambling addiction, risk factors, international practices in the regulation of the gambling industry, and effective measures for the prevention and rehabilitation of individuals affected by gambling addiction.

Special attention was given to strengthening interagency cooperation, improving legislation, raising public awareness, and developing evidence-based approaches aimed at minimizing the social consequences of gambling addiction.

As a result of the conference, a resolution was adopted containing recommendations on enhancing preventive measures, promoting interdisciplinary research, and strengthening cooperation among the scientific community, governmental institutions, and civil society organizations in addressing gambling addiction.

The conference became an important platform for professional dialogue and the consolidation of efforts aimed at studying and addressing one of the most pressing social issues of contemporary society.
