Zhetysu University named after Ilyas Zhansugurov is a large regional university that combines classical principles with modern educational programs. The University is developing as a multidisciplinary innovation-oriented Smart university in the areas of education, science and education. According to the “National Rating of the best multidisciplinary Universities of Kazakhstan-2020”, conducted by the Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education, ZU named after I. Zhansugurov is consistently among the top ten multidisciplinary universities in Kazakhstan.

The university has a research institute for biotechnology problems, 7 faculties, 22 departments, a college, a scientific and educational center “Ruhani Zhangyru (Spiritual revival)”, StartUp Academy ZU, a scientific and practical center “Iliyastany”, an office for the commercialization of research results, and an IT center.

For almost half a century, the university has trained 52,175 specialists with higher professional and postgraduate education. Currently, the university has 5218 students of all forms of education and 353 master students, 75 doctoral students, 574 college students.

The educational and research processes at Zhetysu University are provided by highly qualified scientific and pedagogical staff, the total number of teaching staff and scientific staff is 281 people, including 22 doctors of Science, 103 candidates of Science, 21 PhD doctors, 144 masters, 18 professors, 48 associate professors. The university has 1 member of the Academy of Education, 1 member of the Academy of Social Sciences, 1 member of the Academy of Natural Sciences, 1 member of the Academy of Economic Eurasia, 3 members of the Academy of Informatization, 5 corresponding members of industry academies, 16 holders of badges “For merits in the Development of Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, 28 Honorary employees of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 11 Excellent Students of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 3 Honored Workers of Culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Honored Lawyer of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 32 holders of the republican grant “Best Teacher of the Year”, 1 coach of the highest level of qualification of the first category. Among the students of the university there are currently 2 world champions and 8 Asian champions, 47 champions of Kazakhstan.

The University’s teaching staff and scientific staff have 18 patents for inventions and utility models that meet the novelty criterion, with a total 126 H index .

Currently, the University has 60 existing agreements on cooperation with foreign universities and organizations in the field of joint scientific research, academic exchanges of students and teachers, and joint implementation of educational programs and research projects.

Today, the university trains specialists of a new model, adapted to modern and changing conditions of production and the labor market.
