Zhetysu scientists at the University of Oxford

From December 14 to 25, 2025, Associate Professor of the Department of History and Social and Humanitarian Disciplines at Zhetysu University named after I. Zhansugurov, Candidate of Historical Sciences Baigabatova Nazgul Kazhimuratovna, and Lecturer, PhD Abdrakhim Miras Erkinuly are undertaking a research internship at the University of Oxford, United Kingdom. The visit is carried out within the framework of the research project IRN AP26197965 “The Everyday Life of Ethnic Repatriates in Post-Soviet Kazakhstan: Adaptive Strategies and Integration Practices (a case study of the Zhetysu Region),” funded by the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. During the internship, scientific consultations were held with leading scholars of the University of Oxford. In particular, Professor Alexander Morrison exchanged views on the historical context of the research topic and directions for comparative historical analysis. Professor Madeleine Reeves, representing the Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS) at the University of Oxford, provided analytical recommendations on contemporary migration processes and theoretical models of repatriation. Alongside expert support for the research, at the Bodleian Library of the University of Oxford, the Zhetysu scholars are collecting the latest international academic publications and studying contemporary theoretical and methodological approaches as well as conceptual frameworks related to the project topic.
