Zhetysu University named after Ilyas Zhansugurov has been included in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026, placing in the 1001–1500 band among 1,646 universities from 116 countries worldwide. In total, 24 universities from Kazakhstan were represented in this prestigious global ranking.
The ranking evaluates universities’ contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), assessing such areas as quality education, gender equality, partnerships, decent work and economic growth, academic freedom, community engagement, and other key dimensions of sustainable development.
Within the framework of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the University achieved rankings in ten categories:
- 401–600 for No Poverty (SDG 1);
- 401–600 for Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9);
- 401–600 for Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10);
- 401–600 for Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6);
- 601–800 for Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8);
- 601–800 for Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16);
- 801–1000 for Gender Equality (SDG 5);
- 1000+ for Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3);
- 1000+ for Quality Education (SDG 4);
- 1001–1500 for Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).
The results of the independent international assessment demonstrate that the University’s development strategy is strongly focused on addressing the social, environmental, and economic challenges of the region while contributing to the sustainable development of Kazakhstan as a whole.
