Title: The development of new genetic resources for Kazakh bread wheat improvement
Goal: The aim of this grant proposal is to use such a genetic strategy to develop four bi-parental wheat populations, through crossing the Kazakh and UK commercial wheat varieties, and constructing their high-density genetic maps.

Aim: The workshop is aimed at showcasing how to use genetic and genomic methods that support modern wheat improvement and breeding. The course will be tailored according to the experience of participants and cover techniques such as genetic map construction, QTL mapping, GWAS, RNA seq, and navigation of bioinformatic and genomic resources.
Audience: The target participants are mid-career or junior scientists working with wheat or crops.
Funder and host: The workshop is fully funded by John Innes Centre, UK. The participant’s (mainly form Central Asian states) expenses such as travel, accommodation and meals will be covered by the organizers. The Zhetysu University named after I Zhansugurov, Kazakhstan, will host the workshop.

-Anna Backhaus, PhD candidate, studies the genetic architecture of wheat florets.
-Dr Kanat Yermekbayev, the host, studies the genetic control of adaptation and yield for Kazakh bread wheat.
THE PASSAGE OF THE INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE
"THE 8th ASIA-PACIFIC CHROMOSOME COLLOQUIUM" (APCC8).
Goal: From 17th to 25th September, 2023y, a scientific conference was held in the city of Tekirdağ (Turkey), Namık Kemal Üniversitesi and the main goal was the exchange of scientific information in the field of modern cytogenetics.
The program covered a wide range of research and topics in the field of chromosomal science and cytogenetics such as:
- Application of cytogenetics in medicine and agriculture;
- Chromosomal engineering;
- Cell cycle and division;
- B-chromosomes;
- Chromosomal aberrations;
- Genome structure and epigenetics and many other aspects.
Members of the research group of our university, project manager AP15473186 "Development of new genetic resources for the improvement of Kazakh wheat" Head of the laboratories of Molecular Genetics and Genomics Ermekbayev Kanat and junior researcher of the laboratories of Molecular Genetics and Genomics Sartbayeva Zhuldyz took part in this scientific conference. The project executor, PhD student of the 2nd year Sartbayeva Zhuldyz took the third place in poster reports among more than 13 countries of the world in various categories of cytogenetics.
