Ph.D. in Philology K.N. Mysaeva from the Department of Journalism of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, together with students of journalism and information education programs from S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, and I. Zhansugurov Zhetysu University, held an online lecture on the topic “Hate Speech in the Media.” The main goal of the event, organized for students of the three universities, was to provide them with more detailed information about hate speech, its types, and classifications. Students received certificates of completion of a master class in media journalism. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered an Address to the Nation, in which he spoke about several stages in building a “New Kazakhstan.” Second-year students of the educational programs “Journalism and Information” (ZHK211, ZHK212, ZhPK211) at Ilyas Zhansugurov Zhetysu University discussed the President’s Address in detail. Referring to the global model of implementing political reforms presented in the key document, they expressed support for the new initiative to constitutionally consolidate norms concerning the powers of the president and his close relatives.

On February 26, 2025, Gulnur Baimukhan, a 4th-year student majoring in Journalism at Ilyas Zhansugurov Zhetysu University, under the supervision of Bibigul Zhumashovna Karimova, won 3rd place in the category “Best Research Paper.”

On September 24, 2025, on the eve of Labor Day, special honors were given to professionals from various fields in the Zhetysu region. Winners of the regional stages of the “Labor Path” and “Paryz” competitions were awarded. Among them was Elmira Berikkizy Smagulova, a 4th-year student of the Journalism Faculty at Zhetysu University named after Ilyas Jansugurov, who received a certificate worth 100,000 tenge and a letter of appreciation for her contribution to the development of the information sector. The award was presented by Beibit Oksikbayuly Isabayev, the akim (governor) of the Zhetysu region.

                                                                                                              The traditional subject Olympiad was held

                   An interdisciplinary Olympiad was organised by the Department of Journalism. Students from the second to the fourth year of the Journalism and Public Relations specialisations took part. The Olympiad consisted of three stages. In the first stage, students introduced themselves in a creative manner. In the second part, students from the Journalism specialisation wrote an essay on a “Current Issue in Society” within one hour, Students of the “Public Relations” specialisation comprehensively outlined strategies for various companies to successfully navigate a crisis. In the final stage, based on a homework assignment, the Journalism students filmed and presented a video clip on the theme “A Journalist’s Day”, lasting between 1 and 3 minutes. The Public Relations students presented a photo essay on the theme “A PR Specialist’s Day”. According to the competition results, the first prize for the Journalism specialisation went to Shyryn Askatkyzy, the second prize to Azamat Dauletbayev and Aidana Ardakyzy, and the third prize to Ospanuly Aruzhan, Balaaman Kadirseit and Akbota Muratkyzy shared the prize. In the “Public Relations” specialisation, the first place was awarded to Tomiris Aisaeva, while the second place was shared by Dariga Meliskanova and Asylzhan Toksanbaeva. The third place was taken by Omirbek Nurai, Ashym Tomiris and Nursultan Toktasyn.
                  The event was aimed at the students’ professional development, broadening their creative horizons and helping future journalists to establish their own unique style. The students who were recognised as the best will take part in the forthcoming national olympiad.

     In honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding scholar, literary critic, and public figure Temirbek Kozhakeev, the republican competition “The World of Kozhakeev” was organized at the Zhetysu University named after Ilyas Zhansugurov. This event, of high spiritual and educational significance, aimed to stimulate the scientific inquiry of young researchers and creative youth. The event, held in both Zoom and offline formats, was attended by the scholar’s colleagues, his students working at leading universities in the country, as well as young journalists. The speakers spoke in detail about the scholar’s strict and demanding character, his remarkable works, and presented his personality to the youth from various perspectives. About 40 students from 7 higher education institutions across the country participated in the republican competition. They studied Temirbek Kozhakeev’s scientific heritage, journalistic works, and creative vision, competing in three categories. Through their reports and research projects, the participants comprehensively revealed the individual’s contribution to the development of Kazakh journalism and literary criticism. The final stage of the competition took place on January 30, 2026, and the results were published at a scientific-practical conference. Based on the competition results, in the category “Best Scientific Project,” the first place was awarded to Madina Mädi, a student of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University; in the category “Best Press Material,” first place went to Merey Amangeldi, a student of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University; and the winner of the “Best Video Material” category was Aibek Beisenbek, a 3rd-year student of Zhetysu University. This event became an important platform for promoting the rich legacy of Temirbek Kozhakeev among the younger generation and is aimed at developing national science and spirituality.
