In 1973 the Taldykorgan Pedagogical Institute began its work, on the basis of which two faculties functioned: philological and physics and mathematics. In the structure of the physics and mathematics faculty there were two departments - physicists and mathematicians.
The first head of the Department of Physics was the candidate of physical and mathematical sciences Bazar Kabdoshevich Damitov, a graduate, then a graduate student at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Two employees worked at the department: a graduate of the post-graduate course at KazPI named after Abay Poshanova Dyisegul and graduate of the Novosibirsk University Heffel Alexander.
In 1974-1976 the candidate of physical and mathematical sciences Sakibayev Razakh, who defended his thesis in Leningrad, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences Agulykov Aidar, graduate of Tomsk University Kramer Petr, the experienced teacher of the boarding school of Taldykorgan city Sergazin Tileubek, graduate of the post-graduate course at KazPI named after Abay Namazbayev Kanabek, graduate of the Novosibirsk University Gelvert Andrey.
For two or three years, the department has done a lot of work to ensure the educational process. Educational laboratories for mechanics, molecular physics, electromagnetism, optics, atomic and nuclear physics, and classrooms for physics teaching methods, technical training aids and astronomy were created. The main material and technical base of these laboratories was instruments and equipment sent as aid from the central universities of the Union and the Republic, Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, Kazakh State University named after S.M. Kirov, Karaganda State University.
In 1977 the department was replenished with two more young teachers: Abdugalimovym Eltai and Tokarbayev Timur. In the same year the institute gave the first graduates, including physics specialists for secondary schools.
In 1978, the Department of Physics was divided into two departments: Department of Theoretical Physics and Technical Disciplines, whose head was appointed Zhomart Zhaparov, who came from the Zhambyl Technology Institute. Department of Physics and Methods of Teaching Physics, the head of which was nominated by the candidate of physical and mathematical sciences Nurpeisov Zhambyl from the Almaty Nuclear Institute. A year later, instead of Z. Nurpeisov, who moved to another job, the candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, associated professor Zhumanov Kenes, who came from Kazakh State University became the head.
After this, the chairs were reorganized several times. In different years the chair of theoretical physics and technical disciplines was run by Sakibayev Razakh (1979-1984, 1986-1990), Ikonnikov Vladimir (1984-1986), Kozhamkulov Bolatkhan (1991-1996).

In 1996, three chairs were merged into one - the chair of Physics and the MTPh, run by Rakhimbekov Aitbay (1996-1998), Namazbayev Kanabek (1998-2004, 2008-2011), Shakenov Manat (2004-2006), Kalzhanova Gulmira (2006- 2008).
In the 2011-2012 academic year, the department was headed by M.B. Shakenov.
In the period from 2012 to 2014, the department was headed by candidate of pedagogical sciences, Associated Professor Issayeva Svetlana Kasymovna.
In the 2014-2015 academic year, the Acting Head of the Department of Physics and the MTPh was Master of Pedagogy, Senior Lecturer D.A.Tursynbaeva.
In 2015-2016 academic year, the head of the department was candidate of pedagogical sciences, Professor Namazbayev K.T.
From the beginning of 2016-2017 academic year, the duties of the head of the department is a candidate of pedagogical sciences, associated professor N.Zh.Zhanatbekova. Since 2019, the head of the Department of Physics is a candidate of pedagogical sciences, professor Namazbayev Kanabek Taubekovich. Since March 2020, became the head of the department Physics is PhD, senior lecturer A.A.Akzholova.

Aimbetov works in the JSC (National Center of space research and technologies) of the National Space Agency (NSA) of Kazakhstan. Currently, 9 teachers, 3 senior laboratory assistants, 1 master of industrial training and 1 laboratory assistant work at the Department of physics and MPF. From the teaching staff one Doctor of Technical Sciences, 3 candidates of sciences, 1 PhD, 4 masters of pedagogical sciences.
The department has 7 educational laboratories in mechanics, molecular physics, electricity and magnetism, optics, quantum physics, engineering and methods of school experiment, astronomy. All of them are provided with modern equipment and descriptions of laboratory work in Kazakh, Russian and English.
On April 18-20, 2018, the M.Kozybayev North Kazakhstan State University hosted the 10th Republican Olympiad among students of higher education institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan majoring in the 5B011000 – “Physics” specialty. Students from 13 universities of the country took part in the Olympiad.
The students showed good results, Marzhan Chalmatayeva took 1st place in the individual competition, Akerke Kakimzhan and Aida Alimbekova received certificates. Thanks to this, the next XI Republican Students’ Olympiad will be held at our university. The team leader was A.B.Abdulayeva, a Lecturer of the Department of Physics and Methods of Teaching Physics, Master of Natural Sciences.
The Olympiad was a wonderful opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge, creativity, ability to think deeply and gave an opportunity to communicate with leading scientists.
On June 8-10, in Astana, in the Palace of Independence, the most large-scale republican national competition of start-up projects “StartUp Bolashak: Menin Armanym” was held, organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Bolashak Association.
Almaty region was represented by 17 start-ups that underwent acceleration in “StartUp Academy ZHGU”, 13 projects of which became the winners of the ¼ final and went to the semifinal.
Among the winners were undergraduates of the specialty 6M011000-Physics Zhailaubayeva N.N. and Zhakpaev K.R. under the leadership of Associate Professor Yesengabylova I.Zh.
According to the results of the final stage of the contest of innovative ideas My “StartUp 2017” among young scientists of Zhetysu State University named after I. Zhansugurov, who passed on the basis of StartUp Academy Zhgu 1 place was taken by undergraduates of the specialty 6M011000-Physics Zhailaubayeva N.N. and Zhakpayev KR, as well as the project of a 3rd year student of the specialty 5B011000-Physics Chalmatayeva M.B. was recognized as the “Best Industrial Project”.

Іnterest to the educational process, professional activity has a decisive influence on the preparation of students for future work. One of the most important incentives for the development of this interest is the introduction to the research work. In order to develop creative scientific abilities of students and the development of skills in research activities in the physics and mathematics faculty student scientific Council.
On September 19 was held the first in this academic year meeting of the student scientific Council. The participants were students who are interested in research work, wanted to take part in competitions, contests, conferences.
In the end, the students came to the conclusion that the qualities in ensuring the competitiveness of specialists with higher education on the labour market, formed the unity of the educational process and research activities.
On December 22, 2017 in the physics and mathematics department held a scientific and methodological seminar “Physics and technology: the past we value, the future we create”, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the birth of Professor Zh. Zhaparov.
To honor the memory of this great man came friends, colleagues and undergraduates of the specialty “6M011000-Physics”.
Before the opening of the seminar, participants could see the photo exhibition in front of the audience named after Zh. Zhaparov. The photographs, which captured the brightest moments of Zhomart Zhaparov life, and a video report about the life of the professor, made a great impression on the guests, provoking a lot of pleasant memories.
After the solemn opening of the seminar, colleagues and undergraduates of the specialty “6M011000-Physics” delivered speeches.
At the Department of Physics and Methods of Teaching Physics of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, there are successfully functioning extracurricular science and research clubs: “PHOTON” – in Experimental Physics and Processing of Circuitry, and “QUANTUM” – in School-level Physical Experiments and Technical Modeling. The Head of the “PHOTON” Club is D.A.Tursynbayeva, senior lecturer, and the Head of the “QUANTUM” Club – K.T.Namazbayev, a c.p.s., professor. Essential assistance in the educational activities of the Clubs is provided by a master of industrial training, N.Tarikhov, and senior laboratory assistants, Seken Orazbay and Birzhan Baigazinov.
A special workshop was set up for the Clubs at the faculty. It was equipped by the staff of the Department. Members of the Clubs are engaged with it in their spare time. Thanks to the group classes, they have the opportunity to combine their theoretical knowledge and experimental work. Students work on projects that can be successfully offered for participation in various competitions upon completion. At a competition of scientific works held in 2016, among undergraduates and Master’s students of the ZhSU, the following members the Club: Marzhan Chalmatayeva and Akyerke Kakimzhanova, second-year students with a major in Physics, took second place, and a student, Aray Kozhakhmetova, placed third, in 2017, a student, Marzhan Chalmatayeva won first place in the Republican Contest of Start-up Projects.
On March 28, 2018, the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics held a competition of research projects in the field of physical and mathematical sciences and information technologies for gifted schoolchildren in the Almaty region.
The competition presented scientific research in the field of physical and mathematical sciences and information technologies, the direction of which corresponds to the main priority areas of science and technology. The age of the participants is not limited.
The winners were awarded diplomas, valuable gifts, participants were given certificates. The best works are recommended to participate in republican competitions of research projects and are presented in the START – UP Academy.
On 31.03.2018, the Education Department of Almaty region and Regional Methodical Cabinet, professors and teaching staff of the Department of Physics and Methods of Teaching Physics of Physics and Mathematics Faculty at the I.Zhansugurov Zhetysu State University organized and conducted the regional Lomonosov Olympiad among Physics teachers. 17 teachers of schools in the area attended the Olympiad. The participating teachers showed high level professionalism, the desire to improve their knowledge and skills, interest in their job and the results of the activities. We wish all the participants and winners of the Olympiad further success.
In 2016, students Serzhankyzy Moldir, Zhakpaev Kuanysh took 1st place, and Zhailaubaeva Nazgul, Zharilkapova Zhanar took 2nd place in the IV international olympiad of scientific works “Flight of Thoughts” organized by the scientific and educational institution “Vector of Science”.
Students of the 2nd year of the specialty 5B011000 – Physics Chalmatayeva Marzhan, Kukimzhan Akerke and Kozhakhmetova Aray participated in the contest “Realization of productive innovative ideas” among young scientists of Zhetysu State University named after I.Zhansugurov, where Chalmatayeva M. and Kukimzhan A. took the 2 nd place, and Қожаметова Aray is the 3rd place.
A student of the 2nd year of the specialty 5B011000 – Physics Chalmatayeva Marzhan also took part in the IV republican patriotic forum “Men zhastarya senemin”, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the day of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, held at the Kazakh National Pedagogical University n. a. Abay, where she was awarded a certificate.
In the competition of innovative ideas and startup projects “Jetisy-Startup”, 3rd place was awarded to 1st year students of the specialty 6В01503 «Physics» Bogdan Ali Serikuly and Beimbetova Medina Birzhanovna for the project «Smart-drone». Project manager is Sagadinova Aidana Nurlanovna and Kulyntaeva Asel Erzhanovna.
On May 15, 2020, the XII Republican student Olympiad among students of higher educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the specialty 5B011000-“Physics”was held in the East Kazakhstan state University named after S.Amanzholov in an online form. Students from 12 universities of the country took part in the Olympiad.
A team of students of specialty “Physics” Issabaeva Azhar, Baikydyrov Olzhas, Suleymenov Sultan took 1st place.
In the period from October 16, 2017 to October 28, 2017 at the Department of Physics and Methods of Teaching Physics an invited scientist, a doctor of technical sciences, a professor of the Power Supply Department of the Irkutsk State Agrarian University named after A.A. Ezhevsky (Russian Federation) Gennady S. Kudryashev delivered a course of lectures for master students of the specialty 6M011000 «Physics» in the disciplines “Application of scientific knowledge for the study of physical problems” and “Mathematical methods in electrodynamics”.
Professor was consulted with the faculty of the department on new methods of scientific research. Also, together with the scientist, they discussed the themes of master’s theses, academic mobility of students and undergraduates, internship by undergraduates, organization of bilateral joint seminars, topics of joint scientific projects and programs.
In March 2016 specialty 5B011000 – “Physics” successfully passed the re-accreditation in the international agency ACQUIN until 2023.
At the invitation of the University, Academician of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Vitaut Petrovich Tamuzh gave a lecture to students at the course “Mechanics of Composite Materials”.
Under the program of realization of academic mobility students of the specialty 5B011000 – Physics are trained in universities of near and far abroad.
In the 2013-2014 school year, the 4th year student Samal Konakbayev was trained in the academic mobility program at the Riga Technical University (Latvia).

The TS of the Department of Physics and Methods of Teaching Physics in honor of the Day of Languages of the Peoples of Kazakhstan organized a solemn event on the topic “The Status of Language – the Greatness of the People”.
In the message of the leader of the nation, the people of Kazakhstan were offered a cultural project on trilingualism. This solemn event was held in the form of the game “Polyglot”. The event involved students of the first year of the specialty 5B011000-Physics and 5B010900-Mathematics. The deputy dean of the physics and mathematics faculty R. Zh. Zheksenbayev summed up the results of the event and awarded the participants with commendable certificates.
October 13, 2016 senior curator of the Department of Physics and MPF of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, curator of group 311 FC Tulegenova Darina Tuleshovnova held an open curatorial hour on the topic: “Early Marriages and Their Consequences”
The event was attended by: Deputy Dean of the Physics and Mathematics Faculty for teaching and educational work Zheksembaeva R. Zh., Head of the Department of Physics and MTP Zhanatbekova N.Zh., teachers of the department, as well as students of the II, III courses of the specialty 5B011000 – “Physics”.
The main goal of the event is to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of early marriage, to introduce young people to the consequences of early marriage, the issues of creating a family, the future planning of marriage, the current trends and problems of the development of the institution of marriage and family, family relationships and the upbringing of children. Show positive aspects of marriage, self-education and self-esteem.
Students of the third year showed a small sketch on the topic of the lesson and told about the consequences of marriage at an early age, there was a lively discussion, everyone shared their opinions and thoughts.
To summarize the lesson, a group work was conducted, where the students told about the pros and cons of early marriage, and also held a competition among connoisseurs of proverbs and sayings about marriage, family and upbringing.
The youth came to the conclusion that in the future it is necessary to receive the blessing of parents when creating and planning a family.
On October 28, a meeting with Zhambyl Abdulaev, professor of the Taraz University of Innovation and Humanities, was held at the Zhetysu State University named after I.Zhansugurov at the Z.Zhaparov Auditorium. The meeting was attended by the faculty of physics and the MPF, as well as students of the specialty 5B011000 – physics.
The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the students of the specialty 5B011000 – physics with the author of the first textbook on the course of physics written in the Kazakh language, to instill in students interest in the chosen specialty.
During the meeting, the author of the textbook Zh. Abdul expressed his thoughts on the difficulties of writing a textbook, on the role of pedagogical activity in society, about the role of the teacher in the life of students. In conclusion, students shared their impressions and asked questions of interest to them. We hope that this meeting will be an incentive for future physics teachers.
On November 29, 2016, the PPS of the Physics Department and the MPF organized a round table for students living in the hostel No. 2 of the Zhetysu State University on the theme “A Healthy Way of Life – A Key to a Bright Future”. The round table was conducted by Associate Professor R.Khalymyly and the teacher of the chair A.Abdulaevа.
The purpose of the event: the promotion of a healthy lifestyle among students; the formation of a healthy lifestyle through proper nutrition, learn to be a healthy soul and body, strive to create one’s health, applying knowledge and skills in accordance with the laws of nature, the laws of being; expand knowledge about the dangers of alcohol and tobacco smoking.
During the round table, issues and problems of modern youth were discussed. Students expressed their views on the health of young people and made a model for a healthy lifestyle. The conclusions of this event were quoted by the great thinker Socrates: “Health before that outweighs all other benefits of life, that a truly healthy beggar is happier than a sick king. Health is not everything, but everything without health is nothing. “
On October 18, 2019, the curators of the second year of physics Tusupbaeva M. and Sagadinova A. Held a curatorial hour with students on the theme “there Is no way of corruption”. The purpose of the curatorial hour : to show and tell about the responsibility for corruption violations, about the prevention of corruption in various spheres of society, responsible attitude to public obligations.
